$ 84.95

  • I2C Current Monitoring Mini Module
  • 8-Channels of DC Current Monitoring
  • 5-Amp Current Monitoring per Channel
  • Monitor Current from Anywhere using Particle Electron
  • 12-Bit Resolution per Channel
  • Allegro ACS712-05 Hall Effect Current Sensor
  • ADS7828 High-Speed 8-Channel I2C ADC

This 8-Channel DC Current Monitor consists of ADS7828 12-Bit Analog-to-Digital Converter connected to eight ACS712-05 hall-effect current sensors.  This controller uses I2C communications and includes a convenient I2C output connector for easy expansion. On-Board address jumpers allow device start address selection for up to four current monitoring controllers on a single I2C port.  No software development is required as our GitHub repository has a complete driver for monitoring 8-Channels at 5 Amps.

Physical implementation is easy, simply pass current through each pair of screw terminals and read the voltages on the ADS7828. The ADS7828 will return approximately 2.5V when 0 current is passed through the ACS712. Forward current will cause the ADS7828 to return values between 2.5 and 5VDC as current increases. Negative current will cause the ADS7828 to return values from 2.5 to 0 as current increases. In theory, this design could monitor AC, but our software currently supports DC only at this time.

What is the I2C Interface?

I2C Interface allows you to chain together several devices on the I2C bus, and communicate to each device individually at high speed (subject to the limitations of I2C).  The I2C Interface uses a standard 4-Pin I2C Input and I2C Output connector.  These devices communicate on the power of 5V I2C data and provide 5V DC power through this connector.  The advanced embedded devices use standard I2C communications for all data transport, which is supported by nearly every microcontroller in production today.  The I2C Interface is strictly a 5V standard, which is ideal for transport across longer cables.  The device Package always includes a 6″ (152mm) 4-conductor I2C cable.  The I2C based Mini Modules always include a 3″ (76mm) 4-conductor I2C cable.  Cables and connectors are available separately for designers who would like to include their own I2C Interface into their designs.

Plug and Play Connectivity

These advanced Embedded devices will plug into any available I2C Output.  This includes just about everything we make in the DCube Store IoT Category, including all the other IoT devices.  We also supply a wide range of I2C adapters that make it easy to plug I2C Devices directly into most computing platforms.  The advanced Interface adapters are available for Arduino, Banana Pi, BeagleBone, Bluz, C.H.I.P., ESP8266, Onion Omega, Particle Photon and Electron, PyCom, Raspberry Pi, 2, 3, and Zero, and Windows.  We are always working to add new platform support for I2C devices.  These Interface devices are compatible with just about everything in the microcontroller industry.

Unlimited I2C Expansion

Based on our plug-and-play I2C interface standard, all the I2C devices which are equipped with the above protocol output ports, making it easy to expand to a wide variety of sensors, current monitors, relay controllers, PWM controllers, and much more!  We are always designing new expansions for our modular plug-and-play I2C framework.  We are dedicated to building a product line of interconnected devices to simplify all forms of automation.  Re-use or upgrade your hardware within seconds by selecting the modules that best fit your needs, and chaining them together using the included I2C expansion cables!

Powering I2C Interface Devices

Some I2C devices require an external power supply, others may be powered through the 4-Pin I2C bus connector at 5VDC, and other devices are jumper selectable between external and I2C bus power.  All I2C mini-modules are powered through the 5V I2C bus connector, greatly simplifying connectivity.
